Every day, countless people commute to Potsdam – whether for work or university or as visitors to the city. Many of these commuters rely on their own cars, leading to long traffic jams, particularly during peak times. The noise pollution is high and the exhaust fumes are palpable. The 'Smart mobility hubs for Potsdam's commuter flows' initiative addresses this issue and is an important step in the integrated transport transition for Potsdam and the region.

To this end, three key train stations at the city boundaries of Potsdam (Golm, Griebnitzsee, Pirschheide) and the Potsdam main station will be equipped with innovative mobility stations. These stations will offer a variety of shared vehicles for rent and passengers will be able to continue their journey by train, bus or tram. Existing park-and-ride (P+R) parking spaces will also be integrated into the travel chain.

But what is needed at these locations? E-scooters, bicycles, cargo bikes or even electric cars – and how many of each? To find tailored solutions, future user groups will be involved in the process and the scenarios developed will be tested during pilot phases.

The goal is to create a car-free city centre where more and more people will leave their cars behind and use public transport, which will become more attractive when combined with new complementary mobility services.
