The sub-project focuses specifically on the topic of 'Digitalisation and climate protection' and is being developed for public relations and information dissemination purposes.
The aim is to explain and make tangible topics related to climate change, climate resilience, climate adaptation and the connection to nature (e.g. biodiversity) in an understandable way for residents and visitors of Potsdam. In addition, the Smart City projects and other relevant measures of the state capital Potsdam, which relate to the changing climatic conditions within the city, will be made tangible.
The sub-measure aims to answer the following questions:
- What does climate change entail, especially for Potsdam? What causes can be identified? How does climate change impact the city climate in Potsdam?
- What does the change in the city climate, along with other climatic effects, mean for the city's residents, flora and fauna and other sectors? What would happen if it got even hotter in Potsdam?
- What is the relationship between digitalisation and climate change/climate adaptation? How can Smart City solutions serve climate change and climate adaptation? What specific steps is Potsdam taking in this field?
How can the climate be protected? What climate budget can be derived for Potsdam from existing commitments? What is the administration doing for climate protection? What can I personally do in my daily life and where can I get involved?
These topics will be conveyed through a mobile application. The goal is to provide a playful and interactive approach under the concept of 'serious games'. The digital city experiences created in this way, such as geocaching or city walks, will be integrated into the 'Potsdam City Guide' app.
When developing the digital city walks, care will be taken to cater to the interests of different target groups. The plan is to offer resources for both young people and adults. In addition, a format will be developed to empower adults to act as mediators for younger children, involving the youngest Potsdam residents and visitors. The content will be presented in an accessible manner with an emphasis on ease of use and barrier-free access, to reach as many people as possible.
Physical markers (e.g. signs, posts, etc.) will serve as entry points for the city walks. These will be placed at suitable locations throughout the city to make the urban space tangible through walking.
