The goal of the citizen-friendly tree register is to digitally capture the central tree population of Potsdam in order to respond better to changes. For this purpose, all city trees (approximately 120,000) will be catalogued with 50 to 60 attributes, including tree species, size and condition. In addition, the digital tree register will compile existing and new information from three areas: tree inspection, assessment/prioritisation and tree care – information that arises from regular evaluations and maintenance.
Based on the digital tree register, a web application will be developed in which relevant information for the city population will be presented in an accessible manner. This will include information about the tree population and tree care measures. Interested residents can register and will receive regular updates for trees in their vicinity.
The application will also include a function that allows residents to report tree damage to the administration. This will enable quick and targeted tree care procedures.
